Have You Planned Your Spring Decking Project Yet?

With the colder months of the year finally being put behind us, we can start to look forward to spring. Spring brings with it warmer temperatures, as well as more opportunities to utilize your home’s deck. As someone who’s been providing York County with our deck building services for years, we wanted to take some time today to talk about some spring decking projects.

Plant Some Trees and Flowers

Spring is the season of new life and is the perfect time to put some plants in the ground. Nothing can add beauty to your back yard like some pretty flowers and majestic trees. You should head to a local nursery and ask about some indigenous plants to give your deck the extra pop it needs.

Pressure Wash and Clean Your Deck

Your deck has probably taken some aesthetic damage over the winter. Leaves and dirt can stain your deck and to get rid of the stains you’ll need to clean it. In some cases, a pressure washer can help you get the job done quickly. If you don’t own one, you can either rent one or hire a professional power washing company. It should be advised that pressure washing a deck with too much pressure might end up damaging it, so proceed with caution. Simply washing the deck with brushes and some gentle cleanser might be more work, but it will also be safer for the wood. It all depends on the material your deck is made of.

Add a Fresh Coat of Deck Stain

Applying a new coat of stain to your deck can be a great way to change things up and give your backyard a new look. Fresh deck stain should be applied to your deck approximately every 2-3 years depending on the health of the wood. If your deck is showing signs of mold or mildew, then it’s probably time to restain it. Make sure to clean your deck before you restain it for the best results.
