Now that the holidays have passed and we are looking forward to the year ahead, it’s a good time to start planning your new deck or deck remodel. One of the biggest things to consider when designing a deck for your home is its function. If entertaining and family gatherings are at the top of your priority list, then seating should be a big consideration in your deck planning. At Custom Deck Builders, our Maryland deck builders would love to work closely with you to design a deck that fits your needs perfectly. Here are some creative seating options to consider incorporating in your new deck.
Built-in Bench Seating
One of the most functional seating options you can add to your deck design is built-in bench seating. Benches can be as simple or as complex as you’d like, and can seat as many guests as your deck can hold, depending on their design. Maybe you love having your entire extended family over for a barbecue in the summer? Benches can be added to provide seating around the entire perimeter of your deck. Or do you prefer an intimate gathering of your best friends around a coffee table or fire pit? Larger benches can be built into a corner of your deck that can accommodate cushioned seating for a built-in, all-weather couch.
Hammocks
If relaxation is your number one goal, a hammock is the way to go! Hammocks can provide additional seating for you and your guests, but also provide a comfortable place for you to kick your feet up with a good book and relax. Hammocks come in a variety of sizes, shapes and designs, so you are sure to find something that fits your needs. Hammocks typically have to be attached to two posts or suspended from a beam. This is why it’s important to consider adding a hammock before building your deck, as special structural arrangements may need to be made to support a hammock.
Swings
There is nothing quite as nostalgic and relaxing as spending time enjoying an iced tea while swinging in the shade of a covered deck or porch. A traditional porch swing can add so much to your deck, being not only functional, but also beautiful. At Custom Deck Builders we’d love to work with you to incorporate hanging swings and shaded areas in your new deck.
Deck and Patio Furniture
If you aren’t entirely sure what kind of seating you will need on your new deck, there is a huge variety of deck and patio furniture that can be added to your deck at a later time. We have come a long way from traditional teak deck furniture! Modern seating options include traditional chairs, benches, padded benches with storage underneath, all-weather loveseats and couches, chaise lounges, and the list goes on and on. And the best part is that unlike other “fixed” seating options, patio furniture can be moved around and rearranged as you wish. Need space for a dance party? No problem, just move the table over to the side and have a great time!
Designing a new deck is fun and exciting, but can also be overwhelming. At Custom Deck Builders, our Maryland deck experts will work closely with you to design the perfect space for your outdoor entertainment needs and wants. With so many seating options to choose from, we will help you determine what will work the best for you and your space.
